Meet The Member – Gemma Meenan, Gem Social Studio
💎✨ Hi! I’m Gemma, the Head Gem behind Gem Social Studio. 👋🏼
I’ve always worked in marketing, and for the past decade, I’ve embraced freelancing work to fit around my family life. Eager to keep up with new trends, a few years ago I pursued a course in Digital Marketing and discovered my passion for social media management. For the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a Glasgow-based marketing agency and managing a few small business accounts on the side. However, I felt it was time to establish my own brand. Thanks to the encouragement and support from my friend Jen Docherty of @ToastyType, I found the confidence to take the leap. This year, I proudly launched Gem Social Studio!
Running my own business has incredible perks! I can take a sunny day off if I wish, return to my desk recharged and ready to tackle my to-do list with fresh energy. On the other side, it can get a bit lonely at times, but regular check-ins with clients keeps me connected. Plus, joining the Glasglow Girls Club has introduced me to a community of inspiring women so I know I’m not on my own!
The key to business success? Invest in strong client relationships. Be there when it counts—reshuffle your priorities if needed. Your presence can transform how clients perceive your brand!
Ambitious and driven, I’m hoping to expand my business by managing 3-4 new small business social media accounts this year while actively engaging with the Glasglow Girls Club to network with unique companies and discover my next client. My ultimate goal? To turn my passion into a thriving full-time venture.
When motivation wanes, I say to myself ‘Let’s start by doing 5 small things.’ I name the 5 tasks in my head and set myself a deadline. Before I know it I’m deep into a project and the creativity is flowing!
And lastly, here’s a fun peek into my world: I once played the tenor horn at the Albert Hall, I’m a proud parent of identical twins, and I grew up in the picturesque Campbeltown in the west coast of Scotland!
