Meet The Member – Kayleigh Spowart, Koyn Accountancy Ltd

Name – Kayleigh Spowart

Business Name – Koyn Accountancy Ltd

Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it? –

I started Koyn Accountancy at the end of 2021 with a 1- and 2-year-old in tow. Like many new mums, returning to employment was nearly impossible during the pandemic due to the unpredictability of childcare. Running my own accountancy practice was never something I thought I’d do, and this journey began out of necessity, but now, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else—I absolutely love what I do. I provide accounting and financial coaching services to service-based businesses. My focus is on helping people improve their relationship with money. I blend professional expertise with a laid-back, friendly approach to make finances less intimidating and more empowering.

Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey? –

Done is better than perfect! If you wait until everything is perfectly aligned, you’ll never start. If you’re passionate about what you want to do, just begin! You’ll figure it out as you go.

What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it? –

My biggest challenge has been overcoming the self-doubt around running my own business. Most of us have been there. It takes time, but now I’m confident in what I can offer people and the impact I can have on them and their business.

What is your number 1 business tip for success? –

Get your finances in order from day one. Having real-time insight into your finances will allow you to make better and more informed decisions about your business. Don’t let a lack of financial organization hold your business back.

What are the big business goals for the next year? –

My biggest goal for the coming year is to grow the financial coaching side of my business. Many business owners are stuck in a cycle of living paycheck to paycheck. I want to help as many people as possible escape this cycle and get on a path to financial freedom, which is more challenging than ever given the current economy. My aim is to provide people with the clarity, confidence, and control they need to make smart money moves and secure a bright future.

How can the GGC Business membership help? –

I’ve become a little anti-social during my business journey, so I’m looking forward to networking and connecting with other business owners who are on a similar path.

What’s the dream? –

My big dream is to have a business that provides my family and me with the income we need to create memories all around the world.

Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business –

‘Get Sh*t done’. Now, it’s not the most ladylike, but it’s a great motivator for me.

Three fun facts about you! –

1. I really want two chickens and a pig. I’d call my chickens Nacho and Fajita, and I’d call my pig Jalapeno.
2. If I go to a restaurant and there are no chips on the menu, the restaurant is too fancy for me.
3. I was supposed to move to Canada. I had a permanent residency visa, but the only time I have ever been to Canada was a 5-day trip to activate that visa. I’ve never been back.
