Meet the Member – Jenni, Two Tabbies
Name, business name
Jenni, Two Tabbies
Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it?
Two Tabbies emerged from my desire to leave behind a 9-5 corporate design job and embrace a more creative and fulfilling career. Launched in 2017, I initially specialised in bespoke wedding stationery, allowing me to explore my passion for design on my own terms. Now, as I seek to broaden my horizons, I am shifting my focus back to graphic design and illustration work, aiming to collaborate with other small businesses for all design needs — whether that’s brand identity, print collateral, kid’s book illustrations, web design and social media graphics.
Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey?
Invest in your business (particularly before the tax year ends) — spending money on quality tools, software, training and equipment will help your business thrive going forward, as well as reducing your tax bill!
What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it?
Not taking enough time off — being self-employed can be tough in the beginning and the guilt of not always working can be a struggle but I’ve learned that it’s important to take time away from emails and social media and try to switch off instead of feeling burnt out. You feel super motivated and less likely to make silly mistakes after a day or two off!
What is your number 1 business tip for success?
Community over competition — it stops imposter syndrome and can give you a confidence and motivation boost when you have a group of business pals in similar situations. It makes being self-employed less lonely and can help you thrive when you have friends to cheer you on and give advice.
What are the big business goals for the next year?
Increase social media presence and have an online space for my graphic design business. I’d also like to streamline processes to improve everyday productivity.
How can the GGC Business membership help?
I’m excited to connect with other small businesses and build my confidence to put myself out there a bit more. I’m also keen to explore the library of learning for business members — there’s lots of past workshops and training sessions to check out!
What’s the dream?
To become fully-fledged self-employed (I have worked part-time since starting my wee business) and have a creative space/studio of my own someday.
Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business?
Don’t be afraid of being different, be afraid of being the same as everyone else!
Shout out to another local business you admire?
I have a few close business pals on GGC — Caledonian Cowgirl, Toasty Type and Papercut Posies who are all amazing, creative and super supportive!
Three fun facts about you!
1. I got married on Halloween — got photos in masks on our wedding day (I have a taste for the darker things in life)
2. I collect designer art toys — probably the most colourful thing about me
3. I’m a crazy cat lady (that’s a given, with the name Two Tabbies!)
