Laura Pearson, Laura Pearson Nails
Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it?
My whole life has been working in the media – as a Beauty Editor & Influencer, TV/Film Production Coordinator & Broadcaster. I’ve never known anything else. Stress really gets to me as I have high anxiety, so with turning 40 next year, I had to look at which parts of my jobs I enjoy and what parts I don’t. I love being creative best, I love beauty and I love social media; so I decided that starting my own nail business to run alongside being a Beauty Editor & Influencer would be best for me.
The concept of Laura Pearson Nails ie. centering around manifestation, positivity and self belief came from my struggles with anxiety. I wanted to do more for my clients than just paint their nails. I wanted to improve their mood and alter their outlook on challenging things in their lives. I decided to combine my extensive skincare knowledge as a Beauty Editor with my own personal obsession with manifestation to create a bespoke luxury 5-step hand treatment that utilises the powers of scent and has some fun little affirmations and manifestation tips too. It doesn’t add much time to the manicure and it’s not more expensive. It’s just a different way to manicure.
Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey?
I have had the best mentor possible – my friend Kimberly Nkosi who does the nails of Hollywood A-listers and royalty. She has really helped my shape my business concept and fill me with self-confidence. She has taught me to trust the process and that things take time, but they will come. Something that my anxious brain, who likes everything to be perfect right away, has found difficult.
What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge has been overcoming my own brain and silencing the anxiety and the self-doubt. Everything else I think I’ve managed well with. Sometimes it’s yourself that is your own worst enemy and you need good people around you who can offer alternative perspectives on things.
What is your number 1 business tip for success?
Work hard, prepare well and then just trust the process. It’s all happening as you are on a journey to something amazing.
What are the big business goals for 2024?
To establish a strong client base of women who want to better their self-care and their self-empowerment with great nails and a more positive mind.
How can the GGC Business membership help?
Networking is what I see it helping with most. Allowing me to meet and support fellow women in the city. I’m a girl’s girl and I love helping other women succeed and feel good about themselves.
What’s the dream?
To eventually expand my business into the celebrity-sphere and be a luxury manicurist to music artists visiting the Hydro!
Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business
Do it your own way!
Shout out to another local business you admire?
I did my training at NAF School, then my practical experience in NAF Salon at House of NAF. I love Tammi and everything she has created. NAF also really champions women and is such a positive and supportive place to spend time in. The culture there is so healthy and friendly and it’s very aesthetically-pleasing too. I use their cuticle oils in all my treatments.
Offer for GGC website members?
I would like to offer GGC website members 15% off of any treatment over £35.
